Stellenbosch University, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Monday 15 March 2010 to Friday 19 March 2010
Background:
The Winelands Conference started out 22 years ago as a public administration conference in 1987. This was three years prior to the start of the democratic transformation in South Africa.
The first conference theme was: Public Administration: Past, Present and Future and commemorated the publication of the article: “The Study of Administration” in 1887 by the then Professor and later President of the United States of America, Woodrow Wilson.
Since 1997 a Winelands conference was held, with growing international and national recognition every second year, initially in September of the uneven numbered years, but recently in the even numbered years during March. Some of the themes that were covered over the years were:
-
Ethics and the Public Sector: 1989
-
Public Administration in Post Apartheid South Africa: 1991 (Predicting and Contemplating Democracy in South Africa, (author’s note))
-
Spanning the Global Divide: Networking for Sustainable Delivery: 1997
-
Good Governance for People: Policy and Management: 1999
-
Public Management and Development: Illusion, Delusion, Illumination?: 2006
-
Sustainable Futures: What's Left? What's Right? What Next?: 2008
